Musical Underdog - The DJ

To many a DJ is considered not to be a musician. Fans of Rock, Jazz, Blues, etc. which styles of music are constructed with the use of musical instruments such as guitars, drums, etc. sometimes have the view that digitised beats made by a computer then stuck together has little muscianship. I disagree with this as digital music is based on rythym and beat matching just like that of a drummer. A DJ no matter what style of music they are mixing, matches beat patterns and rythym.

I have had many an arguement with people saying that a DJ is not a musician because they are just playing other peoples music. This maybe true, but what a DJ does is re-master tracks and use different elements within a song to create a new fused tune. The Movie It's All Gone Pete Tong demonstrates the musicianship of a good DJ. It is based on the true story of Frankie Wilde a notorious DJ from the United Kingdom who went deaf. With hearing obviously being the main sense used for DJing, Wilde teaches himself how to instead feel the music through vibrations and Djs based on this. This shows that a DJ is not just someone playing others tunes over and over, but a musician that works with rythym and beats to produce different versions of songs or even creating a new tune.
