The success of American Idol, Pop Idol, and Popstars reality television programmes has created a big franchise among the youth of the present. Sony is one company that has banked in on the success of the Idol programmes with Playstation 2. The first Playstation 2 Singstar game became an instant hit among consumers in the home by allowing family members to feel like they were a celebrity. A karaoke styled game that had people in the home singing to their favourite bands or artists and pretending to be a superstar. The game was so popular that Sony have released future sequels to the game: Singstar Rock, Singstar 80's, Singstar Pop and Singstar Party. The consumption of these games have become so popular since shows such as American Idol started because of the paralelled idea that ordinary people can have their fifteen minutes of fame. while also creating an intimacy between the media text and the viewer.
