Idol Superstars?!?!

There have been a couple of posts on the blog lately about the Idol series and its effect on creating pop superstars. It is pretty obvious that New Zealand Idol winners will never make it. With a small market to perform their music in front of, and New Zealand use of the Tall Poppy Syndrome, it has not surprise me that these people have not made it. Of course it is different in the USA where there is a larger population to perform in front of. However there has been failures, any remember Ruben Stoddard and Clay Aiken, where are they now. The ones that do become superstars are the ones that are willing to stray away from pop music. Kelly Clarkson reinvented her music in to something with a little bit more edge, a little bit more rock and roll. Chris Daughtry as well has produced a much more rock sound. He has created music more like Nickleback or Creed. This has allowed for him to gain more respect as an artist. Therefore, the Idol series does not produce superstars, it gives them a window in to fame, and it is up to the artist how they want to jump through it.
