You Tube: The New Trend

The role of web-based video files have been so much influential to the current public as the percentage of the people who have internet access been largely increased. The enhanced downloading speed from the web consequently allows online sharing of video files that enable users to see moving images without spikes or lags.

The word UGC, an abbreviation for User Generated Contents, refers to various kinds of media contents that are created by end-users and You Tube, one of the prominent websites that offers the sharing of video clips, is there for everyone. There are lots of issues currently going on You Tube, mainly focused on its copyright infringement. However, it seems that You Tube has already established a new cultural trend which can act so fast and strong among a vast number of people. Its social impact is so huge that the popularity of You Tube has led to create many internet celebrities such as Bree the “lonely girl”, although later revealed the video series were all fictional. The band OK GO has benefited hugely from You Tube for their 2007 Grammy Award winning music video “Here It Goes Again”. Forming the new cultural trend by web-based videos, the You Tube are now can be said to be the new genre of media itself, constructing its own world for the “proteurs” that can instantaneously affect the real world.
