Appropriation of anti-establishment by the establishment

The dude that wrote a couple posts down from me about punk and consumerism, I agree with his point about when does punk stop being punk as in its ideology of anti-consumerism, the mass production and all that jazz being fed to the public, to capitalise on the fad of anti-establishment by selling it in some tangible form thereby making it part of the system.

Also the labelling of certain forms of music through visuals is understandable as it seems to be taken from film and it’s labelling of genres because of the unique visuals attributed to such and such. But this seems to go the point where the symbols of one is taken up in order to gain some sort of success, obviously this is not the case of all as there are underground music scenes as there has always been, I say this to point out the corporations and their seizing on the popular and marketing it for consumption, is this the reason why there is not a significant kind of movement similar to punk in today’s world as was kind of mentioned in the film. What was mentioned in the film concerning this was the move away from musical medium to express ‘punk ideas’ to the others such as writing and what I got from that was the internet, even though there is a huge corporate presence here as well though kind of less visible.
