Just like DJs remix records and audio bites, Video DJs or VJs have been remixing videos with videos, videos with sound, and sound out of videos with new videos.

I feel that this follows in a visual form what turntablists and DJs were doing when they started sampling audio from other songs and remixing. Something that appears to be slightly different however is the visual element of the remix as well, where footage is remixed for comical or emphasized effect. Much of the video remix work that is available either mixes existing music with original video or vise-versa, creating a juxtaposition or complimentary combination. Similarly some of the aural material is diegetic, and other is non-diegetic to the footage, so the visual element can be solely complementary or the mix is a raw mix of video and the original audio.
Brain Kane of EBN now runs a website where he matches up multiple videos from YouTube which you can then pause and play alongside each other to achieve the similar affect as a record remix.
