Punk's not dead

Apologies for the low energy lecture. Like a situationist, I was trying to simulate the boredom of everyday life since that was a concern of punk. Just kidding. A case of mild asthma was making me lose my voice. It's also hard to sometimes state the meaning of punk without speaking in punk vernacular. Dressing it up in academese can be a little awkward. At the same time, one has to restrain the punk discourse for the protocols of the classroom. I probably failed on both counts and was therefore in the awkward inbetween today. Anyhow, I hope the images got you thinking about some of the visual aesthetics of a quite varied phenomenon. Just saw that there is a new documentary on the topic. Also didn't have time to talk about punk dancing: the pogo and moshing, nor OutPunk/Queer Punk, Riot Grrrl and the pop punk-related stuff that dominates the airwaves: Blink 182, Limp Bizkit, Emo etc. Punk fashion seems to have made a comeback in designer circles. Is the political negation of punk gone or was that perspective flawed in the first place? Is the notion of art rupturing the surface of the way we are told things are supposed to be to reveal something else too much to ask of art?
