Re-consuming 'old' Music

I have noticed that in recent years that older songs and artists are re-consumed through the latest films and shows. Music artists like Elton John, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, The Supremes and The Beatles have appeared more popular since certain directors have included these artist's songs in their films or have made biographical films about them. Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge was a musical that had Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman singing songs that had once been popular in the past. they sang: 'All You Need Is Love" by The Beatles, 'Heroes' and 'Diamond Dogs' by David Bowie, 'Like A Virgin' by Madonna, as well as 'Your Song' by Elton John just to name a few. With the popularity of the film and the soundtrack these songs also had become re-consumated and had somehow gave these artists another chance in the limelight of fame. The re-consumption of vintage music has also been mediated through the biographical films about the musician's life and music. The films 'Walk the Line', 'Ray' and 'Dreamgirls' allowed the youth of present day to recognise Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and The Supremes and their music in appreciation. Therefore, these film have also contributed in the sales of these artist's larger record sales that usually accompanies a Greatest Hits album.
