Morphing on TV

When Nabeel mentioned the idea of the way that morphing works on TV, I didn’t realise how correct he actually was. Almost every reality TV show involves some kind of morphing. But the way that it was mentioned, to me it sounded that morphing was a bad thing, but maybe it is what adds to the reality TV shows being “real”. Think of a human person, the whole aim of our life is to morph into an adult, and when you apply that concept to reality TV, it’s sort of the same.

The morphing part is what keeps people hooked. You start watching the show, and then you just HAVE to see what will be the result of this so called ‘morph’. On the Idol shows they go from shy singer to a musical act set for international stardom, or in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – a usually run down house to an amazing mansion, or the show that I was strangely hooked to – the Biggest loser. The idea of “morphing” was epitomized in this show. The idea of the show was to morph your body.

But as Nabeel said the idea of morphing can be hugely applied in any media context, the “Come to Daddy” video really really freaked me out, but it was a good video to show the idea of morphing, and the same with “Black or White”. It’s amazing how you can see a video many a times (as with me and the Black and White video), but not realise what is actually happening. But I do know that it will help me appreciate music videos and the changes in it a lot more.
