I believe that movies like Stomp the Yard, You Got Served, Step Up and Take the Lead have had a positive influence over many of our young teens and young adults in today’s society. Break dancing and Krumping have become widely recognized and have become like a good case of the flu. Everyone is getting hooked and they love it. The energy that is evident in the dancers from the movies, their passion for it and just because its fun is positively spreading amongst our young teens who are becoming motivated to master the art of Krumping and Break Dancing. Of course to be able to master such routines one has to be fit and healthy so a lot of teenagers have stoped smoking, taking drugs and alcohol and there has been less violence with them taking their fights out to the streets with each other on the dancing battle field. This usually involves two opposing teams showing off their own original creative dancing skills and either playing for money or reputation. The dancers take pride in their performances and really take it serious. To lose to then is like losing a physical fight. It is all about reputation – which has the most and better dance moves. Dancing is not the only factor in these movies that have influence over our teenagers in today society but the themes that are evident play a huge part. Friendship, love and family are factors that have been played out in all of the movies mentioned. They show our society that it is alright if one has done wrong because it is only natural that people make mistakes as long as you own up to them and correct them. For example in Stomp the Yard, the character played by Columbus Short has a hidden secret that if known could jeopardize his stay at college which it does but he owns up to it and works hard to make things right. Family can be made up of who ever one feels close to and safe. A lot of teenagers today come from abusive backgrounds and find comfort in those who they can relate to. These movies emphasise that it is okay to create your own family click that you can feel apart of and safe.
