I think I'd rather see all these people lipsync U2 live rather than see the band itself. But where is Milli Vanilli? Is this U2 video a gesture of humility in the face of the history of popular music or an imperial gesture that subsumes all these greats into the U2 universe? Whaddya think?

the thing that pissed me off about the u2 experience that recently swept over Auckland was that it was hard to say you weren't going to go to the concert without having defend yourself against accusations of "negativity" or musical snobbery. Let alone express the fact that they produce formulaic, sentimental ass for people who prefer to be force-fed than actively engage with music.
Bono's recent humanitarian drive is a textbook example of capitalism co-opting resistance. Id be really surprised if any real change comes from swaying with a glowstick at western springs while an ageing popstar lets his mid-life crisis nuclear explode all over everyone.
As for the video i would go with the later. whole foreign cities temporarily adopting you as their spiritual /cultural leader would go to your head. I think Bono is trying to position himself as a kind of benevolent father of all music. all the 'greats' get to come to bono for a nice warm hug.
if u2 ever blesses auckland with their presence again Dick Hubbard can have my personal guarantee that i will rob them
