Film concerts

Adrian Wootton mentions in his essay that the spectators of a film are interested in seeing the band and not the audience. Yet in another section he mentions that the spectator of the film either was not present in the concert and want to experience it vicariously or they were present and just want to bring the memories back. I think he is contradicting himself by these two different statements...Firstly we need to understand what makes a spectator to buy a ticket and attend a concert. Is it the experience of the band only or does the crowd play a greater role in creating that spectacular experience. Watching a film concert is very similar to attending a concert mainly because the spectator wants to see the band in a concert and not in a music video. And the very main difference between a music video and a film concert is the presence of a real crowd.
I believe that the spectator in a live concert observes the crowd as well as the performers and this also applies to watching a film concert because as Adrian says the spectator wishes to bring the memories back or experience the concert. If the film only shows the band on the screen the experience of the concert for a spectator will be as he or she was to attend a live concert without a crowd. So his statement that the spectators want to just see the band only is not even nearly correct because he is underestimating the role of the emotional response of the crowd to the band in creating a ‘live concert’ atmosphere.
